Differentiated Instruction – Home School Tip of the Day #9

Did you see yesterday’s tip of the day from Brian? Today he discusses an approach that you may find appropriate while filling in with your new role as teacher, differentiated instruction.

Differentiated instruction is a framework or philosophy for effective teaching that involves providing all students within their diverse classroom community of learners a range of different avenues for understanding new information (often in the same classroom) in terms of: acquiring content; processing, constructing, or making sense of ideas; and developing teaching materials and assessment measures so that all students within a classroom can learn effectively, regardless of differences in ability….

Simply put, it’s a way for parents with kids who have a significant gap in age/grade to learn effectively together. This can help give you more time to take care of other responsibilities you may have on top of your new role.
